Background: There is a lot of pressure on dental school students to perform better in their learning process. Highly – stressed out dental students are more likely to develop psychiatric disorders and emotional exhaustion. There may be a need for Saudi dental students to participate in support programs to learn coping mechanisms.
Aim: This research is to evaluate at how academic pressure and psychological peer pressure affected Saudi dental students' lifestyle and health decisions. The other goal was to determine whether males and females handled stress differently depending on their gender.
Method: In this quantitative cross-sectional study, 300 students from the College of Dentistry at Dar Al Uloom University and other dental schools in the central region of Saudi Arabia participated in a survey, all these dental schools has around 80% of our teaching program, hence satisfying most parameters. Students from levels 3 corresponding to the 2nd year of BDS curriculum through level 12 corresponding to the final year of BDS curriculum were enrolled.
Results: The participation of 300 students contributed to the 76.4% overall response rate. The study's findings showed that the majority of pupils were experiencing moderate to severe levels of stress. Furthermore, findings revealed that female students experience more academic stress than male pupils. Stress from school has an impact on a person's mental health and professional life.
Conclusion: The findings showed that Saudi Arabian female dental students experienced more stress than their male counterparts during their training. To combat the long-term impacts, interventional programs and preventative measures must be put in place within the curriculum.
