This essay provides an exposition on the endurance of the concept of light both as a scientific object as well as a metaphor in the culture. The role of light has been put to the fore of ancient religion and philosophy, as well as scientific investigation since the Islamic Golden Age. It still has a major role to play in design today, in photography and contemporary art. Light has been endowed with meaning as wisdom, divinity and revelation and in addition served as the raw material of observation and creative sources of art since time in memoir. This paper shows how light has unified science, spirituality and creativity throughout history thus culminating into the invention of the camera wherein one is directly able to interact with light the most.
