Abstract

The study examined the perception of students of their mathematics teachers’ usage of the ethnomathematics approach and materials in the teaching and learning of mathematics. The researchers employed a descriptive survey design that used a sample of 357 students drawn randomly by balloting from a population of 3,324 senior secondary two (SS 2) students. The Students’ Ethnomathematics Questionnaire (SEQ) was the instrument used for the study. The result, among others, revealed that the perception of students of their mathematics teachers’ use of the ethnomathematics approach and materials in teaching and learning mathematics is to a low extent. Recommendations were made, one of which is that the training of mathematics teachers on the use and application of the ethnomathematics approaches and materials is required.
