Abstract

Terrorism has had a significant impact on globalization since the September 11 attacks in 2001. States, particularly the American and European governments, have had to reconsider their policies on cross-border movements due to feelings of insecurity. Globalization, driven by economic ambitions and a desire to reduce religious, ethnic, and cultural differences, has been disrupted by terrorism. The research presented here, which is qualitative and uses an analytical model for data analysis, highlights that terrorism has resulted in increased border controls, decreased foreign direct investment and international tourism, increased military spending, and a shift towards unilateralism, which has weakened multilateral institutions essential for globalization. Terrorism has also created a sense of insecurity and fear among people, resulting in decreased trust and cooperation among nations. To address these challenges, the research recommends increased cooperation among nations to combat terrorism, a focus on addressing its root causes, and greater investment in soft power such as education, culture, and diplomacy to promote understanding and cooperation among nations. In conclusion, while globalization has been disrupted by terrorism, it is still necessary to promote economic growth, social development, and cultural exchange, which can only be achieved by working together to overcome the challenges posed by terrorism.
