The study of civilizations in Pakistan: a political-cum-pedagogical approach

This paper deals with the approach and efforts of Ahmad Hasan Dani in the context of ancient civilizations. Dani was a Pakistani scholar and prolific writer. He was much interested in cultural developments in Central Asia and Pakistan. He was also much influenced by the mid-twentieth century socio-political and scholarly developments. This paper defines his perspective of civilization from ideational viewpoint followed by his works in the field. A discussion has been made to make sense of Dani's interpretation of and research in the field of civilizations. Both socio-political and pedagogical considerations have finally been brought to the fore.
